Exercise 5: Bullets and Numbering

A bullet is used when you need to enter text in point form. You can emphasise text in a list by beginning each with a bullet or number. Word offers several bullet and number styles to chose from.

To use bullets you need to highlight the text you require to appear in bullets and click on either of the icons illustrated left, or you can also click on the Format menu and select Bullets and Numbering.

You can also change the style of bullet:

  1. Highlight the text you have typed in.
  2. Click the Format menu and select Bullets and Numbering.
  3. Click Modify, then click Bullet.
  4. Select the style of bullet you require.
  5. Click OK - the bullet will now be operational.

If you want a space between your points:

  1. Hold the Shift key down and press the Enter key.
  2. Press the Enter key again for the next bullet.

Numbering
Numbered bullets are extremely useful, especially if you need to indent to have points within points.

  1. Highlight the text you wish to number.
  2. Click the Format menu, select Bullets and Numbering and then select Numbered.
