The ability to write and tell stories is an important part of every examination board's assessment of your work at G.C.S.E. level. You may need to submit a short story as part of your coursework, or you may need to write a short story under examination conditions. Whatever environment you have to work in, there are serious difficulties as well as enjoyable freedoms involved in writing a short story.

This package is designed to help you understand the principles of story-telling. It is also designed to encourage you to produce a short story of your own. The package is arranged in three parts.

  Part (a) contains some advice and some questions that you should answer on your own paper.             

  Part (b) contains a story for you to read and some questions that you should answer on your  own paper. 

  Part (c) is a short story for you to plan and write.
