When you are developing your storyline, make sure that you:

![]() | include a key event - this may be your "turning point" - it should be one moment which enables the story to continue and conclude. You only really have room for one key event - so make it a good one. |
![]() | include a twist - if you think about the novels that you enjoy, you will probably find that there is usually some sort of twist in the tale - especially in detective fiction. An unexpected development keeps the reader's interest. |
![]() | make it believable - even if you are writing science fiction, you must make your story believable - if it is not, the reader will get bored. If you want outrageous events to happen, set them up so that the reader can believe that in the world of your story, it is possible. |
