5 Communication Composing a structured narrative from different kinds of source material |
The
story of Boudicca's Revolt is told to the children. Role-play/hot seating activities to bring out Boudicca's dilemma and motives for revolt. Children are given 'episode cards', each dealing with an event in the story (described by a simple caption). Children place the cards in correct sequence and draw pictures on each one to illustrate the caption. In addition, the children could compose their own pictures and captions in the form of an extended narrative. They then compose and perform 'mini-plays' based on the events in the story. Communication: Credit can be given for the quality of the drama (ie. its empathetic content and use of evidence). Also, credit can be given for the quality of the narrative produced (ie. sequence of events, reference to sources, use of vocabulary etc.) |
